Porfolio Project Genre #2
After looking into the Coming-of-Age genre, the next genre I am researching for my Final Portfolio Project is Drama. Drama is a broad genre that relies on realistic characters, emotional themes, and intense internal or external conflicts. While Coming-of-Age focuses on growing up, Drama focuses on the how people deal with life’s hardest challenges.
The target audience for Drama is generally very large, mostly consist of older teenagers and young adults. Since the themes are often more serious, the audience usually looks for a story that feels "real" and emotionally moving. They want to relate to one of their own life’s struggles on screen.

Filmmakers often use low-key lighting and shadows to represent a character’s heavy mood or secrets. Close-ups and extreme close-ups are essential as they capture every expression and tear, forcing the audience to relate to the character's pain. Although Drama can be dialogue-heavy, it also uses silence and "empty space" to build tension. What is not said is often just as important as the script. Dramas usually use a melancholic or orchestral score. Piano or string instruments are common to guide the audience’s emotions without distracting from the acting.

One movie that is in the drama genre is Parasite. It discovers the dynamics between poor and wealthy families in Korea.
